British Columbia and Saskatchewan win gold at Under-16 Western Flag Challenge

John, Reid, Mitani and Hendren named tournament MVPs

Regina, SK (July 28, 2019) – It was a golden day for British Columbia and Saskatchewan at the Under-16 Western Flag Challenge on Sunday in Regina.

In the Male Division, British Columbia cruised to a 45-18 win over Manitoba to win the gold medal.  Manitoba claimed silver. Meanwhile, Saskatchewan pulled out a 27-4 victory over Alberta (1) to take bronze in the tournament.

Earlier in the day, British Columbia defeated Alberta 40-6, Manitoba coasted to a 33-13 win over Saskatchewan (1) and Saskatchewan (2) got past Alberta (1) 25-20.

Tournament MVPs were British Columbia’s Milan John (offense) and Manitoba’s Everett Reid (defense).

As for the Female Division, Saskatchewan won gold after defeating Manitoba 26-18. Manitoba takes home bronze.  In the bronze medal game, British Columbia scored a 26-18 win over Alberta.

On Sunday morning, Saskatchewan earned a 31-0 win over British Columbia while Manitoba was victorious over Alberta 24-13.

Tournament MVPs were Manitoba’s Maggie Matani (offense) and Saskatchewan’s Kiera Hendren (defence).
