Canada’s U-18 National Team announced for 2015 International Bowl

by footballcanada

Forty standouts chosen from the 2014 Football Canada Cup (under-18 national championship) in Saskatoon will represent Canada at the 2015 International Bowl series in Arlington Texas. The series of games is a collaboration of the sport’s national governing bodies in each country – USA Football and Football Canada – featuring top student-athletes in football’s greatest annual international competition.

The event features a week of practices and activities for each level culminating with international competition. Canada’s Under-18 National Team will compete against Team USA on Friday January 30 at AT&T (Cowboy) Stadium while Canada’s U-19 National Team will play their U.S. counterparts on Saturday February 7 at Maverick Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas-Arlington.

Canada’s under-18 roster is comprised of 26 tournament all-stars as well as 14 additional Canada Cup standouts that competed July 6-12 at the 2014 Football Canada Cup in Saskatoon. Among the roster of 40, Canada returns four players from last year’s Canadian U-18 International Bowl roster including Gregory Hutchins (Bedford, NS), Payton Hall (Caronport, SK), Samuel Lefebvre (Saint-Lambert-de-Lauzon, QC) and Marquis Richards (Brampton, ON).

Canada’s U-18 National Team is led by head coach Glen Mills who led Team Ontario to a gold medal victory over Saskatchewan-Green at the 2014 Football Canada Cup in Saskatoon. His staff is made up of coaches from each of the eight participating teams from the under-18 national championship.

“Being able to represent your country on the international stage in a venue like AT&T Stadium home of the NFL Dallas Cowboys is a tremendous opportunity and a chance of a lifetime,” head coach Glen Mills said. “It’s an honour to represent our country on this type of stage.”

“It just doesn’t get any better – most only dream of competing in a venue and event like this. For our 40 players and coaching staff this dream becomes a reality on January 30.”

Second annual Canada-U.S. International Bowl series

Last February’s [2014] International Bowl marked the first time that Canada and Team USA faced-off outside International Federation of American Football (IFAF) World Championship competition. The Canada Cup National Team heads into its second International Bowl looking to build on a 53-9 victory.
