DAY 1 RECAP: 2018 Flag Nationals and Under-16 Eastern Flag Championships

Four undefeated teams in Under-18 Divisions, three undefeated in Under-16 Divisions

The 2018 Flag Nationals and Under-16 Eastern Flag Championships kicked off on Friday in Halifax, Nova Scotia with games in both divisions for each event.

In the 2018 Flag Nationals Female Division, Ontario and Manitoba ended up being undefeated after Day 1.  Ontario got wins over Saskatchewan (8-0) and host Nova Scotia (12-0).  Meanwhile, Manitoba earned victories over Quebec (12-6) and host Nova Scotia (13-6).  Quebec and Saskatchewan tied 12-12 in the fifth game on Friday in that division.

The standings are Ontario and Manitoba with 2-0-0 records, Saskatchewan and Quebec with 0-1-1 marks.  Nova Scotia is winless after day 1 with 0-0-0 record.

As for the Male Division, British Columbia and Manitoba won all three of their games.  British Columbia defeated Ontario (13-0), Quebec (32-25) and Nova Scotia (20-19).  Manitoba earned wins over Saskatchewan (27-19), Quebec (33-20) and Ontario (43-14).

In other games, Quebec earned a 14-0 shutout victory over Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia edged Saskatchewan 32-31 and Ontario defeated Saskatchewan 28-14.

The standings after the first day of the event are British Columbia and Manitoba with 3-0 records. Then, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Ontario with 1-2 mark.  Finally, Saskatchewan is winless with an 0-3 record.

Meanwhile, the Under-18 Eastern Flag Championships also had a full day of action in Day 1.  In the Female Division, host Nova Scotia 1 and Quebec 2 remain undefeated.  Nova Scotia 1 got wins over Quebec 3 (7-6) and Nova Scotia 2 (34-0).  Quebec 2 earned victories over Quebec 1 (24-20) and Quebec 3 (13-12).  The other game saw Quebec 1 cruise to a 38-6 win over Nova Scotia 2.

After Day 1, Nova Scotia 1 and Quebec 2 are 2-2 while Quebec 1 is 1-1.  Both Nova Scotia 2 and Quebec 3 are winless at 0-2.

In the Male Division, Ontario was the only team to win all their games, noting victories over Nova Scotia 1 (25-16). Nova Scotia 2 (28-19) and Quebec (41-12).  In other games, Quebec defeated Nova Scotia 2 (34-25), Nova Scotia 1 edged Quebec (31-30) and Nova Scotia 2 got by Nova Scotia 1 (20-19).

Ontario leads the standings 3-0 while Quebec as well as hosts Nova Scotia 1 and 2 are all 1-2.
