DAY 1 RECAP: 2018 Senior Flag Nationals

Five teams remain perfect after first day of tournament.

The 2018 Senior Flag Nationals kicked off on Saturday afternoon in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with games in three divisions.

After Day 1 of the tournament, Team Canada and Team Manitoba are undefeated with 2-0 records in Pool A.  Team Canada defeated Goldminers 54-6 and then earned a 47-0 shutout victory over Potatoes. As for Team Manitoba, they won 49-0 over Potatoes and coasted to a 41-0 win over Goldminers,

Both Goldminers and Potatoes are 0-0 and have yet to get a win.

In Pool B, Team British Columbia and Blackshirts finished Day 1 with perfect 2-0 records.  Team British Columbia got past Gamecocks 11-6 and then cruised to a 32-6 win over Pirates.  On the other hand, Blackshirts earned a 45-0 shutout win over Pirates and edged Game Cocks 7-6.

Not being able to get a win on Saturday, both the Pirates and Gamecocks are 0-0.

Over in the Female Division, Turf Tigers are the only undefeated team with a 2-0 mark. The team earned that record with a 26-7 victory over Eclipse and squeezed out a 7-6 win over the Cougars.

Both the Eclipse and the Cougars ended Day 1 with 1-1 records.  Eclipse notched a 46-0 shutout win over Wolfpack whereas the Cougars upended the Wolfpack 26-0.

The Wolfpack were unable to grab a win and have a 0-0 record.

All teams will continue to compete on Sunday May 20th with games starting at 12:00pm CST/2:00pm EST.  The 2018 Senior Flag Nationals will conclude on Monday May 21st with the medal rounds which will be steamed live on Football Canada’s website.
