SASK DEFENCE NOTCHES 4 INT’S IN 5TH PLACE GAME VS. MANITOBA

Saskatchewan and Manitoba battled in the 5th place game at the 2011 Football Canada Cup. On the first series of the game, Saskatchewan marched down to the Manitoba 1-yard line however the ‘Toba defense held firm, stopping them on third down. Saskatchewan opened the game’s scoring on their next series, getting good field position after Manitoba was forced to punt from their own end zone. Saskatchewan running back, Brandin Cannon punched the ball in on a 1-yard run after breaking a 17-yard run down the sideline setting his offense up on the 1-yard line.
Saskatchewan increased their lead to 8 after a 51-yard punt single by Lee Kolodzinski. Late in the first half Saskatchewan DB, Ryan Filyk intercepted a Manitoba pass– his first of three on the day.
Saskatchewan extended their lead to 14 on a Jared Andreychuk quarterback keeper who received a great block from receiver Davin Johnston. Saskatchewan sealed the victory on an interception by DB, Isaac Maze.
Manitoba’s front seven played well in the 15-7 loss, putting pressure on the Saskatchewan pivots and limited the running attaché when necessary. Receiver Zach Regert also played well notching 184 yards, accounting for Manitoba’s lone score which came late in the final quarter.
