Parker Schmaltz is a linebacker from Regina, Saskatchewan who will be part of the Under-16 Western Canadian team at the 2018 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas.

The linebacker was only two years old when he got his first introduction to football.

“My mom always took me to high school football games,” recalled Schmaltz. “I just love the sport from just watching all the high school kids getting all the attention after the game.”

“I just wanted to be like them.”

Schmaltz began playing touch football at the age of five.  After four years of playing that discipline, he made the switch to tackle football.

The defensive standout has suited up for the Bantam Stampeders of Regina Minor Football (RMF),

One standout moment for Schmaltz was during his first year when he won a championship with his team.

This past summer, the Saskatchewan player helped his provincial team win the bronze medal at the Under-16 Western Challenge in Lethbridge, Alberta.

“It was a really good experience,” recalled Schmaltz of the tournament.  “Being all by myself, learning how to get to practice with new people that I have never practiced with throughout my province.”

“It was very hot.  It was very hard to handle but it was a really good experience playing with new people from different provinces and playing against them, new coaches and learning high skill level football.”

Excited from the moment he saw his name appear on Twitter as a member of the national team, the linebacker felt fortunate to receive such special recognition.

“It is truly amazing and I feel very honoured to be selected,” expressed Schmaltz.

Fred Perry, who is the linebacker’s current trainer and former coach, is a main source of motivation and inspiration.

“He has really taken me under his wing and taught me how to be a good man on and off the field,” added Schmaltz.
