Kaiden Bannon is a receiver from Winnipeg, Manitoba who will be participating in the 2018 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas as a member of the Under-16 Western Canadian Team.

Football runs in the family as his father worked for the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) Winnipeg Blue Bombers for nine years.

“I went to his games and that’s how it really got me into football,” recalled Bannon of his introduction to the sport.  “Once I first played it, I fell in love with it ever since.”

Among the teams Bannon has suited up for during his career include the North Winnipeg Nomads and Garden City Gophers of the Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL).

The offensive standout helped Manitoba win the silver medal this past summer at the Under-16 Western Challenge in Lethbridge, Alberta.

“It was an amazing experience how to see other provinces played football but also to see how Manitoba did against those provinces,” reflected Bannon on the tournament.  “

On the field, Bannon tries to emulate former CFL and NFL player Milt Stegall.  His main influence away from the sport is his father.

Keeping watch on social media, the Manitoba receiver was hopeful he would see his name selected to make the national team.  The moment his name popped up on Twitter, he became speechless and was a loss for words.

“It’s a great honour because not too many people get this opportunity,” added Bannon.  “I’m grateful that I did.”

“I’m really excited and hopefully I will make some new friends and work with some of the best coaches in Canada.”
