Josh White is a linebacker from Regina, Saskatchewan who will be heading down to Arlington, Texas this upcoming January to compete in the 2018 International Bowl as a member of the National Under-18 team.

White began playing football in Grade 6.

“I played in an atom league just for fun,” recalled the defensive standout.  “I tried it out as a new sport just to see how it would go.”

Since then, White has suited up for several teams including atom Bears and peewee Mustangs of Regina Minor Football (RMF) as well as Campbell Tartans of the Regina Intercollegiate Football League (RIFL).

Last summer, the linebacker achieved the highlight of his career when he was selected Defensive MVP of the 2017 Football Canada Cup in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.  At the tournament, he helped Saskatchewan earn the silver medal.

“It was one of the biggest grinds we had ever done,” reflected White of the tournament.  “In Wolfville, there was this hill we had to climb to go down and up from the stadium.”

“It was quite a grind but the grind kind of made it fun.  It was an amazing atmosphere because you get to be with all your teammates and it’s like you are with your friends 24-7 in the sport you love 24-7.”

White is thrilled to have the opportunity to expand his career before he finishes high school by playing in the 2018 International Bowl.

“It means a lot, especially being chosen out of the whole country,” the Regina native said.  “You get to go play and represent one team and be part of a 50-man roster.”

“It’s pretty insane to think about it. It makes me super excited especially for wanting to get better and get more knowledge of the game.”

On the field, White tries to emulate NFL player Luke Kuechly from the Carolina Panthers.

“If you want to be a linebacker, you’re trying to be Luke Kuechly,” added White.

Away from the gridiron, his coaches, family and friends have been key areas of support and encouragement for the linebacker.
