Tyson Philpot is a is a receiver from Surrey, British Columbia that will represent Canada at the 2018 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas as a part of the National Under-18 team.

The receiver was introduced to the sport by his father.

“He did retire when I was born,” recalled Philpot.  “But just being around him and all the teams he coached really got me that drive to play football.”

During his career, the offensive standout played on multiple community all-star teams as well as both the Holy Cross Crusaders and Seaquam Seahawks of the British Columbia High School Football Association (BCHSFA).

When he is on the field, the receiver tries to emulate NFL great Jerry Rice.

“The way he was able to play – I feel like I have some of the same abilities as him like the route running and being able to go up and get the ball,” he elaborated.

However, Philpot said that his parents have been his main role models on and off the field.

This past July, Philpot reached the highlight of his gridiron career when he represented his home province at the 2017 Football Canada Cup in Wolfville, Nova Scotia as a member of Team British Columbia.

“I got a lot of exposure, it was fun to play all the different provinces and it was just fun to connect with all the guys,” he reflected on the experience.

“It was fun being able to connect with different players from different provinces; being able to hang out but the next day playing against each other, just battling and great competition.”

From the moment Philpot learned he made the National Under-18 team, he’s been stoked of having the opportunity to play in the 2018 International Bowl, the biggest event of his career.

“I’m excited and happy to play,” he expressed.  “It means a lot and I can’t wait to play with the best in Canada and go head-to-head with Team USA and hopefully come out with the win.”

“Getting the win would mean a lot.”
