Andy McFalls is an offensive lineman from Markham, Ontario who will be participating at the 2018 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas as a member of the National Under-19 team.

The lineman began playing the sport at the high school level in Grade 9.

“Before that I was a baseball guy,” McFalls recalled.  “When I first started playing the game, I just fell in love with it.”

“I really like the brotherhood that surrounds football.  I wouldn’t trade that for the world.”

During his career, McFalls has played for the Meadowvale Falcons of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA), Team Ontario and the Mississauga Warriors of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

Currently, the lineman suits up for the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Guelph Gryphons.

This year marks the second time McFalls will be representing his country.  Last year, he was part of the national squad that competed at the North American Championships in Florida, which was a highlight for him.

“There is really nothing that compares to it at all,” expressed the Ontario standout.  “The parents and all the supporters that came down to Florida last year with us, it really was unbelievable.”

“The support that we had is something that I will never forget.”

McFall’s first experience representing Canada was surreal.

“I loved it,” he said.  “I knew some of the guys coming from Team Ontario.”

“The coaches are fantastic, some of the best in the country.  The competition level is amazing, whether it is on the practice field with some of our teammates or against the Americans because they can really play some football and so can we.  I am pretty sure we shocked some people last year.”

Speechless when he learned he would be representing Canada at the 2018 International Bowl, McFalls is looking forward to wearing the maple leaf once again.

“The pride that you feel when you put that Team Canada jersey on, I can’t even describe it,” he explained.  “I’m so lucky to have the opportunity to play for your country.”

“It’s something as a kid I dreamed of.  As a kid, I watched the World Juniors in hockey and I would just be like “how do those guys feel playing for their country?” To be able to do that in a different sport, it’s the same thing.  You play for Canada and it’s just unbelievable.”

One of the lineman’s role models is his former high school coach Lee Becker.

“He was kind of like my second dad in high school,” he elaborated.  “He taught me just about everything I know about football.”

McFalls credits his parents for being a main source of encouragement and motivation.

“They push me to work as hard as I can, harder than I could ever work,” he said.  “I never thought I could work that hard and they pushed me to do that.”
