In preparation for the 2015 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Senior World Championship, Football Canada is hosting its Senior National Team identification camp on Sunday January 18 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan [register here].

The senior worlds is to be held July 2015 in Canton, Ohio at Fawcett Stadium on the grounds of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The venue hosted the inaugural 2009 IFAF U-19 [then Junior] World Championship in addition to the annual NFL Hall of Fame Game.

The camps are an opportunity for hopefuls to show head coach GREG MARSHALL (Western Mustangs) and the rest of the coaching staff that they deserve a chance to represent Canada on the world stage.

“First and foremost we’re looking for high caliber athletes that wear the maple leaf with pride and can compete against some of the best athletes in the world,” head coach Greg Marshall said. “Canada has a tremendous pool of talent which we’d like to display against world competition.”

Canada’s coaching staff is comprised of some of the top coaches in Canadian university football. GREG MARSHALL (Western) returns to the staff taking over as head coach from legendary Western coach Larry Haylor, along with JEFF CUMMINS, defensive line (Acadia); BLAKE NILL, linebackers; and STEVE SUMARAH, running backs (Carleton). Rounding out the coaching staff are GLEN CONSTANTIN, defensive coordinator (Laval); KELLY JEFFREY, offensive coordinator (Mt. Allison); and STEFAN PTASZEK, receivers (McMaster).

Held every four years, the IFAF Senior World Championship was established in 1999 while Canada made their inaugural participation in 2011 in Austria placing second. The squad included Canadian university standouts as well as current and past CFL alumni including MICHAEL FAULDS (Western U.), LIRIM HAJRULLAHU and MICHEL-PIERRE PONTBRIAND (Winnipeg Blue Bombers), MATT WALTER (Calgary Stampeders), SHAMAWD CHAMBERS (Edmonton Eskimos).

Former Western Mustangs’ quarterback and current Laurier head coach MICHAEL FAULDS served as Canada’s offensive captain in 2011 and has fond memories of the world championship.

“The Team Canada senior team is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Faulds said. “It allows you to play the sport you love, represent your country and see parts of the world you may not get the opportunity to normally see. [The 2015 IFAF Senior World Championship] will be an unforgettable experience for those fortunate enough to represent Canada.”

Players born in 1995 or before with a Canadian citizenship and who are current or former members of their respective provincial football association in good standing with Football Canada will be eligible to attend the identification camps.

Players interested in attending are asked to complete the pre-registration form which can be found at www.footballcanada.com [direct link to registration here] or through their Provincial Football Association.
