For the second straight season the Hilltops claim the PFC

The Saskatoon Hilltops are going back to the Canadian Bowl for the fifth time in six seasons after at 38-16 victory over the Calgary Colts in the PFC Final.

The Hilltops defence bent but didn’t break, allowing the third most passing yards in a PFC final, but shut the Colts out in the second half.   The “D” knocked down six passes, tying them for third in a Conference championship history.  Defensive back James Vause was terrific, picking off two pass and making four solo tackles.

Blake Herman tallied six tackles, while three Hilltops collected five tackles; Cole Benkic, Blake Adams and Tom Schnitzler.   Hermann also had the lone sack.

Offensively the Hilltops used the ground game to near perfection as Logan Fischer rushed for 170 yards on 23 carries and scored four touchdowns.  Through the air quarterback Jared Andreychuk only completed seven passes and used defensive lineman Matt Kozun for a two yard TD strike.

The Hilltops will host their first Canadian Bowl since the 2010 season and will welcome the Okanagan Sun on Saturday November 7th at 1:00pm.

For the second straight season the Calgary Colts season ends one win short of the PFC title in Saskatoon.

Despite the loss, they set a new PFC record for pass completions as quarterback John Kiesman completed 27 and set a CJFL Conference Championship record with 47 attempts.  Kiesman threw for 375 yards and a major to Jesse Kutz.   Kyle Brick caught a game high nine passes for 122 yards.

On the ground Dylan Minshull scored a touchdown on 17 carries and 72 yards.

The Sun were able to flex their offensive and defensive muscle over matching the Raiders in all facets of the game, scoring four touchdowns on the ground.

In all the offence was extremely balanced passing for 288 yards, while running for 211.  Kory Nagata was terrific on the ground, carrying 11 times for 93 yards scoring twice including the game’s opening touchdown from 25 yards out.

Quarterback Cam Bedore was named the Offensive Player of the Game finishing 14 of 20 for 247 yards and two touchdowns.   He found Kyle Patchell from 15 yards and Kasey Russell from four yards out.  Bedore also ran for a 22 yard touchdown.

Thomas Huber was named the Special Teams Player of the Game with three field goals of 19, 20 and 35 yards.

Defensively the Sun were simply dominating.  They held the Raiders to 67 yards on the ground and held quarterback Liam O’Brien to 11 of 32 for 107 yards and intercepted him three times.  Brennan Van Nistelrooy was named the Defensive Player of the Game after two picks including a fantastic one handed interception on the final play of the game.
