Team Canada players help lead Regina Riot to WWCFL title

As the Regina Riot defeated the Calgary Rage 53-0 to capture the 2017 Western Women’s Canadian Football League (WWCFL) Championship on Saturday evening in Saskatoon, many national team athletes were in top form heading into the 2017 Women’s World Championship in Langley, BC.
Returning 2013 Team Canada QB Aimee Kowalski led the way for the Riot with four touchdown passes.
Carmen Agar heads into her first Worlds on a strong note after adding a rushing touchdown in the victory.
Returning Team Canada defensive standouts Emilie Belanger and Adrienne Zuck also had strong games as they each recorded quarterback sacks.
The win on Saturday June 10 marked the Riot’s second WWCFL Championship as they won their first title in 2015.
The Riot are led by first-year head coach Olivier Eddie who returns as Canada’s special teams coordinator and receivers coach in 2017.
The Saskatoon Valkyries defeated the Edmonton Storm 44-20 in Saturday’s consolation final.
Canada begins training camp on June 17 and opens the tournament on June 24 against Australia.
