Top seeded Québec spoils New Brunswick’s return to the FCC 36-0
(London, ON) — In the second game of the 2012 Football Canada Cup hosted by the Ontario Football Alliance at TD Waterhouse Stadium on the campus of Western University, Québec jumped out to a 36 point halftime lead en route to a weather shortened victory against New Brunswick. The game marked New Brunswick’s first tournament appearance since the 2002 under-19 tournament in Ottawa, ON.
By the time the game was called shortly after halftime Québec had gained 248 total yards and had scored 6 touchdowns. Quarterback, Michael Arruda went 6 for 9 through the air for 114 yards while running back, Édouard Montemiglio rushed for 104 yards on only four carries. Québec’s defense held New Brunswick to just 44 yards on offense.
New Brunswick quarterback, Jeremi Lebans (#10) went 3 for 9 for 23 yards while NB’s run game totaled 21 yards on 13 carries.
Defending champion Québec got on the board at 8:07 of the first quarter when starting quarterback Michael Arruda (#9) found Danny Debrosse-Smith (#81) on a long touchdown pass. Arruda called his own number on a quarterback scamper to make the score 14-0.
Penalties proved costly for La Belle Province as two scoring plays including a Nicholas Plourde-Hector (#18) pick six that was called back due to an offside penalty.
Running back, Édouard Montemiglio widened Quebec’s lead to 21, finding a hole up the middle of the New Brunswick defense on his way to a 48-yard touchdown run.
A touchdown run by #6, Jonathan Thebaud and a rouge made it 36 to 0 at the half. New Brunswick’s offense was driving early in the third quarter as rain began to fall. Thunder and lightning caused a stoppage in play at 5:08 of the third quarter making the final score 36-0.
Quebec now moves on to play the winner of game three between Ontario East and Saskatchewan on Wednesday at 4 pm while New Brunswick will play the loser of game 3 at 1 pm.
