Trio named as Junior National Team Coordinators
Iadeluca, Saint-Vilien and Brandford to assume roles under leadership of head coach Sumarah
Football Canada is pleased to announce the Coordinators who will work alongside Junior National Team Head Coach Steve Sumarah.
Offensive coordinator will be Marco Iadeluca. This past January, he was in the same role as Canada competed at the 2019 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas against the United States. He was also in charge of the quarterbacks at the tournament.
Iadeluca as he served as head coach of the Under-18 national team that participated at the 2017 North American Championships in Orlando, Florida. Additionally, he was part of the coaching staff for the 2009 IFAF World Junior Championships.
As provincial head coach of Team Quebec, Iadeluca led the squads to the gold medal at the 2017 Football Canada Cup in Wolfville, Nova Scotia and the 2016 event in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This past July, he guided the team to a bronze medal performance in Calgary, Alberta.
Recently, Iadeluca moved on from his role as offensive coordinator of USPORTS team Montreal Carabins to a new position as Sports Administrator of CEGEP school College Andre-Grasset.
Paul Eddy Saint-Vilien has been named as the team’s defensive coordinator. Sumarah is very familiar with the coach as he has served in the same role with USPORTS team Carleton Ravens, a position the Montreal, Quebec native began in March 2018.
Previous to the Ravens, Saint-Vilien spent four seasons in the RSEQ conference with the Montreal Carabins in different roles. With the Carabins, he was defensive coordinator in 2017 and a linebackers coach between the 2014-2016 seasons. Back in 2008, he did another four year tenure with the Carabins as a defensive backs’ coach.
Saint-Vilien experienced one of the greatest highlights of his coaching career as he helped the Carabins win the Vanier Cup in 2014. In addition to that championship, the team hoisted the Mitchell Bowl in 2015, the Uteck Bowl in 2014 as well as a pair of Dunsmore Cups (RSEQ conference championships) in both 2014 and 2015. Saint-Vilien was also on the Laval Rouge et Or’s coaching staff as a video analysis and helped the team soar to consecutive Vanier Cup championships in 2003 and 2004.
Not only has Saint-Vilien coached at the university level, but also the collegiate level as he was defensive coordinator and halfbacks coach of CEGEP Division 1’s Vieux-Montreal Spartiates in both the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Moreover, he completed another two years as head coach of Division 1 squad, Montmorency Nomades.
As a player, Saint-Vilien suited up for CEGEP Division 1 team, Vieux-Montreal Spartiates from 1996-1999. He moved on to suit up for the Rouge et Or in 2000.
Saint-Vilien has also worked alongside Iadeluca during his time with the Carabins but also as defensive coordinator of the 2017 under-18 national team that participated at the North American Championships in Orlando Florida. He also assumed the same role with the under-18 national squad that competed at the 2016 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas. Saint-VIlien has coached provincially, leading Team Quebec to gold medals at the 2015 Football Canada Cup in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec and the 2016 tournament in Winnipeg, Manitoba as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
A familiar face will reunite with Sumarah once again as Bryan Brandford will assume the role of Special Teams coordinator. As Linebackers Coach, the Alberta native led Canada to a gold medal at the 2018 IFAF World Junior Championships in Mexico City, Mexico. Brandford also coached Canada at both the 2018 and 2014 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas.
Brandford was instrumental in Team Alberta’s success at Football Canada Cup tournaments as he led the squad to three gold medal championship final appearances between 2011-2015.
Coaching at the high school level, he instructed linebackers on the Alberta Schools Athletic Association’s (ASAA) Foothills Falcons between 2013-2015. Additionally, Brandford led the Highwood Mustangs to three league championships during his tenure between 2002-2007 and a pair of provincial championships with Oilfield Drillers when he coached there between 1990-2007.
At the university level, Brandford helped the Calgary Dinos under the leadership of legendary head coach Peter Connellan to a trio of Vanier Cup championships (1985, 1988 and 1995). He also instructed the Canadian Junior Football League’s Calgary Colts from 1990-1993 as defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach.
As a player, Brandford enjoyed success as a linebacker with the Calgary Dinos for four seasons as a linebacker where he helped the team win a Vanier Cup in 1983.
