Under-16 Western Challenge begins Wednesday in Edmonton

Four teams to compete in two-day tournament

Players and coaches will converge on Foote Field in Edmonton, Alberta for the 2018 Under-16 Western Challenge.

Four teams will compete during the two days of competition.

It all kicks off on Wednesday July 4th at 4:00pm MST/6:00pm EST as Manitoba faces Saskatchewan North in the first game of the tournament.  Then, Alberta battles British Columbia at 7:15pm MST / 9:15pm EST.

On the second day of competition on July 7th, the losers of those games mentioned above will play each other at 11:00am MST / 1:00pm EST.  Meanwhile, the winners of those games will square off at 2:15pm MST /4:15pm EST.

Last year was the inaugural year for the Under-16 Western Challenge.  In that tournament, Alberta won gold, Manitoba claimed silver while Saskatchewan ended up with bronze.  British Columbia finished fourth in 2017.

NORTH SASKATCHEWAN:

#67 Cameron Friesen – OL
Cam is the perfect combination of size, athleticism, intensity, and intelligence that any coach and team would love to have. He is the anchor of the Team North Saskatchewan Offensive Line at Centre. Friesen is a product of the Saskatoon Bethlehem Stars and has a very bright future ahead of him. Cam has exceptional skills both on and off the field as he regularly displays extraordinary leadership and maturity.

#21 Kayden Miller – RB
Kayden is in his second year on the U16 Team North Saskatchewan. Over the past year he has grown considerably and developed his skill set even further to be a threat as a runner and a receiver in the North Saskatchewan backfield. Kayden is a product of the St. Joseph High School in Saskatoon and will be a major contributor to the Guardians offense this fall.

#20 Anthony Lukan – LB
Anthony is in his second year on the U16 Team North Saskatchewan. Anthony is a threat on either side of the ball as an accomplished running back, receiver, and linebacker. Anthony is a product of the Evan Hardy Collegiate Souls where he was a starting senior linebacker as a 9th grade player. Anthony has an incredible potential and opportunities ahead of him.

#99 Carter Shurvell – DL
Carter is also in his second year on the U16 Team North Saskatchewan and was named a U16 East Challenge All Star in 2017. Shurvell represented the U16 Canada East Team at the International Bowl in Arlington, Texas. Carter is a product of Holy Cross High School and the Crusaders will look to his athleticism, size, and playmaking ability on their Defensive Line.
