Men and Women will take on Austria in quarterfinals

It was a winning day for both of the Canadian National Teams at the 2018 IFAF Flag Football World Championships in Panama City, Panama on Saturday.

After a tough day against stiff opponents on Friday, the Men’s team began Day 3 of the round-robin against Guatemala. Canadas offence got rolling and by halftime, they led the Guatemalans 33-6.  Both the offence and defence continued to work hard and won the game 52-6.

In their second game, the Men’s team drew host Panama.  Trying to deal with the challenges of playing on the host’s turf in front of their hometown crowd, the Canadians prevailed 39-24 to end the round-robin with a 3-2 record.

Now, the Canadian men will battle Austria at 10:15am EST in the quarterfinals.

As for the Women’s National Team, they too opened the day against Guatemala.  At halftime, the Canadians held an 18-0 advantage.  The team never had to look back as they scored a 44-0 shutout win over the Guatemalans.

Next for the Canadians was Japan.  The Japanese women provided a challenge in the first half, but Canada maintained a 22-13 lead at halftime.  However, it was all Canada in the second half and the team cruised to a 42-13 victory over Japan to earn a 3-2 record at the end of round-robin play.

The women will now face Austria Sunday at 9:00am EST in the quarterfinals.
