Braves de Montréal come back from earlier defeat to best Vancity Vice in the National Championship Final
KAMLOOPS (July 2, 2024) –After coming up one game short last year, the Braves are back on top as the 2024 Men’s Senior Flag National Champions. Taking on the Vancity Vice who went through the round robin undefeated, including beating the Braves 46-42, the Braves led from start to finish in a 38-18 victory. The Braves would build up a 22-0 lead to start the game before Vancity Vice got on the board with a TD pass from Hunter Lake to Dan Laventure. Vancity Vice would put some plays together offensively as they tried to cut into the lead, but a big interception by Jonathan Maheu in the end zone and defensive plays by the Braves would stifle their drives. This marks the second title for the Braves in the last three years.
Winnipeg would pull off the 34-26 win over Party Crashers to claim the Bronze Medal. QB Danny Harris would find Cole Burfoot for 2 touchdowns and 2 1-pt converts and hit James Teshuk for another touchdown and 2 1-pt converts. Party Crashers were led by Louis-Philip Thibodeau’s two touchdowns and a 1-pt convert.
In semi-final action, the Vancity Vice took down the Party Crashers in convincing fashion, turning a 29-6 halftime lead into a 42-26 victory. Seye Akinsanmi produced points for Vancity Vice on both offense and defense, securing two receiving touchdown passes and a safety. Arjay Shelly was also a threat on both sides of the ball, scoring a touchdown and a 1-pt convert while also securing three interceptions.
The Braves got their offense going early and often against the Winnipeg Rebellion in their 55-19 semi-final victory. Jean-Daniel Chevalier led the Braves defensively, getting two interceptions, one of which he returned for six points. Jonathan Maheu continued to spread the ball offensively, hitting five different receivers for touchdowns.
In the 5th place game, Alberta would end the tournament on a high note with a 51-24 victory over the BC Gators.
