Safe Contact

Football is a contact sport. Managing risks associated with contact is an important role for all coaches and football organizations. Contact must be taught safely and effectively to minimize the risk of injury.

Safe Contact was originally released in 2014. Since then, we have learned more safe and effective ways to coach contact skills. In 2022, Football Canada released an updated Safe Contact 2.0 to replace the original for immediate release.

Safe Contact 2.0 contains updated information on:

  • Preparation for contact
  • Tackling
  • Blocking
  • Block Defending
  • Ball Carrying

Coaches must take an updated Safe Contact course ever 5 years.
