The U18 Women’s Tackle National Championship, established in 2022, is an annual event that brings together the top under-18 female football players from across Canada. Designed to promote participation and excellence in the sport, the championship provides a platform for young athletes to compete at a high level, fostering a lifelong commitment to fitness, fair play, and teamwork through structured and competitive play.
The inaugural championship took place from July 3 to 9, 2022, in Regina, Saskatchewan, featuring a 6-a-side format with mini-games during the round-robin stage and full-length games during the medal rounds. The event showcased the remarkable talent and dedication of Canada’s young athletes, setting the foundation for future growth. In 2023, the second edition expanded to include seven provincial teams and the National Indigenous Team, held in Ottawa, Ontario, from July 23 to 29. This iteration featured full-length 6-a-side games throughout the tournament, reflecting the evolution of the event and the growing skill level of participants.
The third edition took place in Fredericton, New Brunswick, with games played on July 22, 25, and 28, 2024, further solidifying the championship’s role in advancing women’s football across Canada. As the event continues to evolve, it remains a cornerstone for athlete development, celebrating the growth of women’s tackle football and inspiring the next generation of women’s tackle players in Canada.
