Nomades win first Canadian Championship in overtime thriller
MONTREAL (May 5, 2024) – The Collège Montmorency Nomades are the Canadian Collegiate Flag Football Champions after a 13-12 (2OT)
The Canadian Collegiate Flag Football Championship is Football Canada’s annual event showcasing the best collegiate flag football talent from across the country. Launched in 2022, the tournament quickly established itself as a premier competition for women’s flag football, providing university and college athletes a platform to compete at the highest level. Teams from institutions nationwide come together to test their skills, promoting the sport’s growth and fostering a commitment to fitness, teamwork, and excellence.
Since its inception, the championship has seen thrilling competition and notable milestones. The Université de Montréal Carabins claimed back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023, defeating the UQAM Citadins in both finals. In 2024, the Collège Montmorency Nomades made history by becoming the first CEGEP team to win the national title, edging the Carabins in an overtime victory.
The CCFFC plays a vital role in growing flag football at the collegiate level and beyond, particularly as the sport gains momentum leading up to its inclusion in the 2028 Summer Olympics. By providing competitive opportunities for student-athletes, the championship helps nurture talent, promote gender equity in sport, and inspire the next generation of players.
All athletes must be part-time or full-time registered students at a recognized institution between September and April before the event to participate.
