UdeM looking for three-peat at Canadian Collegiate Flag Football Championship

by Football Canada

MONTREAL (May 4, 2024) – UdeM will head into Sunday looking for their third consecutive Canadian Collegiate Flag Football Championship title, after winning all three of their games on Day 2 of the tournament at Riverside Park in LaSalle,

UdeM, led by quarterback Sandrine Gobeil-Huot and her 29 passing touchdowns, started the day with a 34-6 win over the Cégep St-Laurent Patriots to clinch top spot in Pool A and cruised to a 41-6 win over UQTR in the championship quarterfinals. The championship semifinal was a rematch of the 2022 and 2023 finals, with UdeM taking on UQAM. This year, however, the Citadins were no match for UdeM as they shut out their rivals 38-0.

UdeM will face the Montmorency Nomades in Sunday’s gold medal game. Montmorency advanced to the final with a thrilling 44-38 (OT) win over Concordia. The Nomades started the day with a 27-13 win over Regina-Green to take top spot in Pool C, and shut out Sherbrooke 32-0 in the quarterfinal. This will be the first appearance in a national final for any CEGEP team.

Sunday’s gold medal game is set for 1 p.m. Concordia and UQAM will face off for the bronze medal at 11:30 a.m.

Concordia and the Ahuntsic Eagles won Pools B and D, respectively. Concordia opened their day with a 41-6 win over the Cégep de l’Outaouais, while Ahuntsic got past Toronto 39-13. While Concordia will play for bronze tomorrow, Ahuntsic fell to the third-place game as they were upset by UQAM 28-12 in the quarterfinal and fell 33-15 to UQTR in the 5th-8th place semifinal.

UQTR will face Sherbrooke for fifth place, while Ahuntsic will face St-Laurent for seventh spot. Those contests will get underway at 10:15 a.m., along with the ninth-place game which will match up Toronto and Regina-Green.

The day’s other placement games start at 9 a.m., with Champlain-St. Lambert facing Western for 11th place, Regina-Yellow taking on Outaouais for 13th spot and Guelph and Saskatchewan locking horns for 15th place.
