Football Canada proudly announces the appointment of Jesse Maddox as the head coach for the Senior Men’s National Football Team

REGINA, SK and OTTAWA, ON – Football Canada proudly announces the appointment of Jesse Maddox as the head coach for the Senior Men’s National Football Team, the nation’s representative in the upcoming IFAF World Championship Qualifiers and Championship. Maddox brings experience from the CFL, CIS, CJFL, CMFL, and NCAA.

“I am excited and looking forward to leading the Senior Men’s team into international competition and bringing Canada back to the global benchmark for Football. This will be an opportunity to showcase the talent we have in this country while also cultivating a greater interest not only on the fanbase level but also on the development side for our younger athletes. This process has been a 2 year endeavor, not only with recruiting, scouting and Identifying potential players, Coaches and strategic alliances but also ensuring we have the proper entities in place.” Maddox said.

With Maddox’s appointment, the Canadian Senior Men’s team announced an open call for the Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams coordinator positions. Applications can be submitted here.

The deadline to apply for a coordinator position will be Friday, May 15, 2024.

The open call for positional coaches will follow shortly after the coordinator coaches are selected.

“Our team is looking forward to finding the right coaches from coast to coast to work with this unique group of players. It is important that we have coaches that are ready to put in the work and be an integral part of helping to construct what will hopefully be a special journey” Maddox explained, “and ensure a successful showing that our country can be proud of.”

Maddox, a London, Ontario native, has a rich and diverse coaching background, with multiple levels of experience across Canada including roles as Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator and Recruiting. Recent coaching experience in the CJFL with the Okanagan Sun and London Beefeaters, CMFL/AFL Men’s Semi-Pro with the Fort McMurray Monarchs and Lloydminster Vandals, within USports at Western University as a recruiter, CFL scouting gigs with teams, and multiple CFL guest coaching opportunities which includes time at IMG academy in Florida, free agent camps, and Mini camps.

Maddox’s depth of experience extends into the American game as well, playing High School football in North Carolina, winning a High School 4A State Championships, and a brief NCAA stint, while he resided in the United States. He also has been working with Prep Schools and JUCO programs for recruiting purposes.

Team Canada is slated to play a qualification game on the road against Team Mexico in early January. “Reviewing the film from 2011 until present of the successes of the Semi-Pro leagues playing in Mexico, it is clear to see they play a hard-nosed game that is downhill and fast. I expect this qualifier to be very competitive, with Mexico showing up and testing our team’s limits” Maddox explained.

This is the first time Team Canada will be present at the IFAF World Championships since 2011.

“We are excited to be back on the world stage and compare ourselves to some of the best emerging football programs in the world. The first test is a massive one with Mexico. Mexico is slowly building a powerhouse football culture and is not a team we are taking lightly” said Senior Men’s Team Canada President Daniel Woloshin.
