Ontario Red makes a statement shutting out host New Brunswick 53-0 to set off their campaign in the 2024 U18 Women’s National Championship

July 22, 2024, Fredericton, NB – In a dominant display, Ontario Red overwhelmed the host team New Brunswick with a decisive 53-0 victory in the quarterfinals of the 2024 U18 Women’s National Championship at the BMO Centre in Fredericton, NB.

Ontario Red set the tone early when Katie Foley returned a punt 39 yards for a touchdown at 1:13 in the first quarter. The floodgates opened from there, with Ontario Red scoring four touchdowns in the opening quarter alone. Quarterback Isabelle Berube had an outstanding performance, connecting with Tegan Roy for two long touchdown passes of 34 and 73 yards. Liana Langiano added a 1-yard touchdown run, putting Ontario Red up 29-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Ontario Red extend their lead further. Berube found Qiawna Grant for a 6-yard touchdown pass, and Sienna Cavey broke free for a 28-yard touchdown run, bringing the halftime score to 45-0.

Ontario Red added one more touchdown in the third quarter when Katie Foley scored on a 29-yard run, the 4th quarter would ultimately end 53-0.

Isabelle Berube led the Ontario Red offense, completing 4 of 6 passes for 122 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tegan Roy was her primary target, catching 4 passes for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the ground, Sienna Cavey rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown on 7 carries, while Katie Foley added 52 yards and a touchdown on 4 carries. For New Brunswick, Jana McAllister put in a valiant effort, rushing for 30 yards on 15 carries against a tough Ontario Red defense.

Defensively, Madeline Justesen stood out for Ontario Red with 6 solo tackles, 4 assists, and 1 sack. For New Brunswick, Alexia Brazeau led the defense with 8 solo tackles, 1 sack, and a fumble recovery. Ontario Red dominated in total offense, accumulating 301 yards compared to New Brunswick’s 22. Ontario Red also controlled the time of possession, holding the ball for 21:58 compared to New Brunswick’s 26:02.
