BC no match for Québec on the opening day of the 2024 Football Canada Cup, losing 50-19 to the reigning silver medalists

July 8th – REGINA, SK – Team Québec dominated their opening game of the 2024 Football Canada Cup, securing a commanding 50-19 victory over British Columbia on Sunday, July 7, at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Québec’s offense fired on all cylinders, amassing 443 total yards compared to British Columbia’s 267. The game started with an explosive first quarter that saw Québec jump to a 15-0 lead, setting the tone for the rest of the match.

Quarterback Louis Fortier led Québec’s passing attack, completing 10 of 23 attempts for 211 yards and 3 touchdowns. His favorite target was Sebastien Mari, who hauled in 8 receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Antoine Fafard was a force, rushing for 80 yards and a touchdown on just 3 carries.

Québec’s special teams also played a crucial role in the victory, with Oliver Dallaire returning a punt 82 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.

British Columbia’s offense struggled to keep pace, but showed flashes of potential. Parker Orr completed 15 of 25 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown. Brady Schutz was a bright spot for BC, scoring two touchdowns, including a 44-yard run in the third quarter.

Defensively, Jack Roberts led British Columbia with 7 tackles and a tackle for loss, while Québec’s defense was anchored by Antoine Beaudoin, who recorded 2 tackles, a quarterback sack, and a pass knockdown.

The game was marked by Québec’s ability to score in all four quarters, while British Columbia was held scoreless in the second quarter, allowing Québec to build a substantial 29-7 halftime lead.

The 2024 Football Canada Cup continues with games on Wednesday, July 10, and Saturday, July 13. Québec’s dominant performance positions them as early favorites in the tournament.
