CANADA’S SENIOR MEN’S FLAG FOOTBALL NATIONAL TEAM HEADED TO THE 2028 OLYMPIC GAMES IN LOS ANGELES
With a 34-26 score over Mexico, the Senior Men’s National team is heading to the LA Olympics in 2028
Football Canada is excited to announce the Men’s Senior Flag Football National Team has officially secured a place at the LA28 Olympic Games!
Canada battled Mexico throughout the bronze medal matchup, responding to an early deficit with a strong offensive push. After tying the game at 26–26, Canada moved into overtime and continued to create pressure and scoring opportunities, with Antony Auclair scoring one touchdown in overtime to keep Canada in contention. Canada ultimately secured the win with a final interception from Guillaume Béland punching its ticket to LA28 and securing Olympic qualification.
“We came to the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships to win, and this group got it done. Qualifying for the Olympics doesn’t happen by accident, it’s the result of a lot of hard work and dedication, and I’m proud of how our athletes competed when it mattered most. There are many great teams in this sport right now, and I think we showed just how much we belong in that conversation. This is an exciting time for the sport as a whole, and to see both our men’s and women’s senior teams qualify together, it says a lot about where Canadian flag football is headed,” said Paul LaPolice, Head Coach, Senior Men’s National Flag Football Team
The Olympic qualification represents the culmination of years of work by athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, Football Canada’s provincial and territorial members, clubs and communities across the country.
“This team has shown tremendous determination and commitment throughout this tournament, and they’ve earned their place on the Olympic stage. Qualifying for LA28 is a remarkable achievement and a reflection of the work this group has put in to reach this moment. To see both our men’s and women’s national teams qualify for the Olympic Games ahead of the sport’s debut is an incredible moment.
