Football Canada announces 2023 Football Canada Cup (FCC) schedule

Ottawa, ON. April 03, 2023 – Football Canada is pleased to announce the 2023 schedule for its national male tackle football championship event, the Football Canada Cup (FCC), set to be hosted in Edmonton, AB, this summer. Eight provincial teams, including reigning champions from Saskatchewan, will compete for the title from July 7^th to the 15^th.   

Play will begin on Sunday, July 9^th at 10:00 am (local time) with a matchup between Ontario (ranked 4^th) and British Columbia (ranked 5^th), followed by teams from Quebec (3) and Manitoba (6) jumping on the field at 1:00 pm. Back-to-back champions Team Saskatchewan (1), who had won the title in 2019 – before an unexpected tournament pause, and in 2022 in the first post-pandemic edition – will start their quest for the three-peat at 4:00 pm against New Brunswick (8). Game day one will conclude at 7:00 pm when Team Alberta (2) face Nova Scotia (7).  

Based on the results of the first round of games, the schedule for game day two, on Wednesday, July 12^th, will feature four more contests (10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm, and 7 pm) that will determine the makeup of the final day of competition set for Saturday, July 15^th. The bronze medal game will be played at 4:00 pm while the tournament will wrap up with the championship game to be played under the lights at 7:00 pm.  

As the host team, Alberta will play in games 8 and 11 (see below), regardless of their earlier game results.

5 – 10:00 am – Loser of Game 3 vs. Loser of Game 1 

6 – 1:00 pm – Loser of Game 4 vs. Loser of Game 2 

7 – 4:00 pm – Winner of Game 3 vs. Winner of Game 1 

8 – 7:00 pm – Winner of Game 4 vs. Winner of Game 2 (Host team will play during this time slot.) 

Game Day 3 – Saturday, July 15th, 2023 

9 – 10:00 am – Loser of Game 5 vs. Loser of Game 6 – Consolation for 7^th and 8^th place finish 

10 – 1:00 pm – Winner of Game 5 vs. Winner of Game 6 – Consolation for 5^th and 6^th place finish  
(If host team is not in the bronze medal game, the bronze medal game will take place during this time slot instead.) 

11 – 4:00 pm – Loser of Game 7 vs. Loser of Game 8 – Bronze Medal 

12 – 7:00 pm – Winner of Game 7 vs. Winner of Game 8 – Gold Medal 

Established in 1995, the Canada Cup is Football Canada’s national tackle football championship held in a different community annually. It brings together U18 provincial teams from across the country and has served as a springboard for many athletes looking to pursue a career at the U SPORTS, NCAA, national team, or professional levels. Although the structure of the event has evolved over the years, the objective has always been to promote the game of football to Canada’s youth; encourage individuals to participate in football at a high level of competition and to instill a lifelong commitment to fitness, fair-play, and fun through recreational and organized games of football.
