Ontario Red punches their ticket to the gold medal match after defeating Québec 33-6 in the U18 Women’s National Championship Semi-Final.

July 25, 2024, Fredericton, NB – Ontario Red secured their spot in the gold medal game with a commanding 33-6 victory over Quebec in the semifinal of the 2024 U18 Women’s National Championship at BMO Field in Fredericton, NB, on Thursday afternoon.
Ontario Red’s balanced attack and opportunistic defense proved too much for Québec, as they dominated from the opening whistle. The win propels Ontario Red (2-0) into the championship game, while Québec (0-2) will play for bronze.
The game started with a bang as Ontario Red quarterback Isabelle Berube connected with Tegan Roy for a 67-yard touchdown pass just 26 seconds into the first quarter. This set the tone for Ontario Red’s offensive showcase throughout the game.
In the second quarter, Ontario Red extended their lead with two more touchdowns. Katie Foley scored on a 12-yard run, followed by a 38-yard touchdown reception from Berube. Quebec managed to get on the board late in the half with an 11-yard touchdown run by Effee Petrone, but a blocked conversion left the score at 24-6 at halftime.
Ontario Red continued to control the game in the second half, adding a rouge on a punt by Liana Langiano and a 3-yard touchdown run by Tegan Roy to seal the victory 33-6.
Isabelle Berube led the Ontario Red offense, completing 3 of 13 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Tegan Roy was her primary target, catching two passes for 105 yards and a touchdown, while also contributing a rushing touchdown. Katie Foley showcased her versatility with 21 rushing yards, a 12-yard touchdown run, and a 38-yard touchdown reception.
For Quebec, Effée Petrone put forth a valiant effort, rushing for 142 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, while also completing 5 of 21 passes for 94 yards.
Defensively, Ontario Red was led by S. Hubert-Norwood with 9 solo tackles and 2 assists, while Kaliane Sterling-Godue contributed 7 tackles, including a sack and two tackles for loss. Annie Debray stood out for Quebec with 8 solo tackles, 3 assists, and two pass breakups.
Ontario Red’s defense was particularly effective, recording 3 sacks and forcing 10 fumbles, although Quebec managed to recover all but one. The Ontario Red special teams also played a crucial role, with Liana Langiano averaging 25.4 yards per punt and scoring a rouge.
Despite the loss, Quebec showed moments of promise, particularly in their ground game, accumulating 229 rushing yards. However, they struggled to convert on third downs, succeeding on only 3 of 13 attempts.
