Football Canada has unveiled a series of identification camps in preparation for Canada’s U19 matchup against USA Football’s national team at the 2016 International Bowl series in Texas. The U19 game will to take place on January 31 at AT&T Stadium, during the third annual Canada-U.S. series.

The camps are open to players born in the years 1997 and 1998, with a Canadian citizenship and who are members of Football Canada through membership with their respective provincial football association. Registration will be announced in the coming weeks.

Canada’s U19 International Bowl squad will be led by the Junior National Team coaching staff as they prepare for the 2016 U19 World Championship.  A roster of 45 players will be selected based on Canada’s national teams’ performances against the U.S. national teams in the event’s U18 and U19 contests.

The Junior National Team coaching staff is led by Warren Craney (York University), who returns for his second term as head coach, after leading Canada to a silver medal at the 2014 IFAF U19 World Championship in Kuwait. The program’s third head coach, Craney is a veteran of international football having served as defensive coordinator under head coach Noel Thorpe on Canada’s gold medal winning entry at the 2012 IFAF U-19 World Championship. He served the same role under Glen Constantin at the inaugural event in 2009 as well as the 2007 NFL Global Juniors. Coach Craney has also been involved with the IFAF World Team since its inception in 2010. The three-time World Team defensive coordinator (2010-2012) most recently served as defensive backs coach in 2013.

“Our ultimate goal is to get the best players from Canada at the International Bowl and from that talent pool, select our 2016 Junior National Team roster for the IFAF U19 World Championship,” said Warren Craney.

“Football continues to grow each year not only in Canada but around the world which is on display at the International Bowl and IFAF U19 World Championship.

“The upcoming identification camps are an opportunity for Canada’s best players to showcase their talents with the goal of representing their country on the world’s stage. Canada has a tremendous talent pool that continues to expand and I’m looking forward to seeing this talent showcased in camps across this country.”

Returning for their second straight International Bowl, the remainder of the coaching staff is comprised of Joe D’Amore (offensive coordinator, Windsor), Brian Guebert (special teams coordinator / defensive line, Saskatchewan), Kevin MacNeill (defensive coordinator, Guelph), Chris Auger (quarterbacks, Laval), Danny Desriveaux (running backs, U. Montreal), Jean-François Joncas (offensive line, Cégep Champlain-Lennoxville), Kamau Peterson (receivers, York U.), and Jeff Yausie (linebackers, Saskatoon (CJFL)).
