Ontario raced out to a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter, powered by two touchdown catches and a goal-line score from standout receiver I. Petryk-Orr. But Alberta slowly clawed their way back behind Thorpe’s punishing runs and a 90-yard touchdown drive to close the half.
Ontario appeared to seal the game with a 99-yard touchdown run by Jeshi Cater to go up 31-21 with under seven minutes to play. Alberta, unfazed, responded with ten unanswered points, tying the game with just six seconds remaining on another Thorpe score.
In overtime, Ontario managed a field goal on its possession, but Alberta sealed the comeback with a 4-yard walk-off touchdown run, Thorpe’s fourth of the game, to clinch the 2025 Football Canada Cup in stunning fashion.
