OTTAWA, ON – Football Canada is proud to announce the inaugural Junior National Flag Football Teams, marking a historic milestone in the growth and development of flag football across the country.

For the first time, Canada will field national teams at the junior level, with athletes selected to the 2026 15U and 17U Boys’ and Girls’ National Flag Football Teams. The creation of these teams represents a significant step forward in Football Canada’s high-performance pathway and provides the nation’s top young athletes with an opportunity to develop and compete within the national team environment.

As flag football continues its rapid global growth ahead of its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, Football Canada remains committed to creating sustainable athlete development pathways that identify, support, and prepare the next generation of Canadian athletes for future international competition.

Flag football was officially added to the Olympic program for LA28, creating a transformational moment for the sport worldwide and opening the door for young athletes across Canada to pursue opportunities on the international stage.

The establishment of Canada’s Junior National Flag Football Teams further strengthens Football Canada’s long-term vision of developing athletes through every stage of the performance pathway, from grassroots participation to national team representation.

“Our four Junior National Teams are among our most prized programs within Football Canada and a critical part of our High-Performance plan,” said Warren Craney, Director of High Performance. “As they head to California to train and compete at the Junior International Cup, they are not only representing Canada on an international stage, but they are also building the foundation for our future as a world power in flag football. While we await the IOC’s formal confirmation of Brisbane 2032, our preparation is already underway. The development of the next generation of Canadian athletes and coaches will be cultivated through this program, and the experience they gain now will help shape the standard we want to set for the world in the years ahead.”

Athletes were identified through Football Canada’s national evaluation and selection process, which brought together top junior flag football athletes from across the country. Final selections were made following the Junior National Team Selection Camp held in Kingston, Ontario on May 17, 2026.

As part of the program, athletes selected to the Junior National Teams will participate in a National Team training camp in Chula Vista, California this summer alongside Canada’s Senior Men’s and Women’s National Flag Football Teams. Following camp, the teams will compete at the 2026 Junior International Cup in Los Angeles, providing Canada’s top young athletes with valuable international experience as they continue their development within the national team pathway.
