Two Saskatchewan teams heading to the 2023 U18 Flag National Championships finals

July 22, Winnipeg, MB – The second day of competition of the 2023 U18 Flag National Championships at IG Field in Winnipeg, MB, as thrilling as it was, is now in the books, and finalists in the Girls and Boys divisions are on their way to the championship games.

In the Girls’ tournament, Team Québec and Team Saskatchewan will face off for the title on Sunday at 9:00am local time. Team Québec secured their spot after a perfect three-win group phase, before dispatching Team Manitoba West (41-6) in the quarterfinal and Team Ontario (27-7) in the semifinal. On the other side of the bracket, Team Saskatchewan reached the playoffs with a clean record of three wins in the pool and battled their way to the big game by defeating Team PEI (27-14) in the quarterfinal and Team Nova Scotia (26-14) in the semifinal.

The 10:00am (local time) bronze medal game will feature Team Ontario and Team Nova Scotia, while Team Alberta and Team PEI will play for the 5th place, and the two Manitoba teams will duke it out for the 7th place.

The two championship spots were hotly contested in the Boys’ tournament as well, with Team Saskatchewan and Team Nova Scotia punching their ticket for the 9:00am local time matchup. Team Nova Scotia finished the group phase with two wins and one opening loss against Team Manitoba West but comfortably won their quarterfinal against Team Ontario (34-6) before edging out Team PEI in the semifinal. Coming out of the same pool, Team Saskatchewan also finished the group phase with two wins and a loss, theirs against their upcoming opponent Team Nova Scotia, only to roll through the quarterfinal against Team Manitoba East (38-22) and semifinal against Team Manitoba West (19-6) to reach the pinnacle game of the tournament.

Team Manitoba West and Team PEI will face off in the bronze medal game at 10:00am local time, with Team Québec and Team BC battling for the 5th place, and Team Ontario and Team Manitoba East playing for 7th.
