Canadian QB Bridge debuts on CFL’s opening night

by FBC

This year continues to be a rollercoaster ride for 2009 Junior National Team alumni, Brandon Bridge. On Thursday night when Bridge’s Montreal Alouettes hosted the Ottawa REDBLACKS to open the CFL regular season, the Als fourth round pick was listed as third on the depth chart.

That would change in a hurry after starter Jonathan Crompton and backup Dan Lefevour were forced out of the game due to injuries. Cue Brandon Bridge. The Mississauga, Ontario native entered the game at the 5:09 mark of the third quarter becoming the first Canadian quarterback to do so since Danny Brannagan with the Argonauts in November 2010. Bridge went on to complete 5 of 10 passes for 62 yards. He displayed his potential to the league on Thursday night as exhibited in the game highlights (see below), making a number of strong accurate throws on the move.

Although his debut came earlier than expected, in his post-game interview he spoke of the need to always be ready to play.
