Call for Senior Women’s Tackle Football Coaches & Coordinators

Football Canada is committed to building a program that competes at the highest level on the international stage. We are seeking experienced and passionate coaches to lead and support the Senior Women’s National Tackle Football Team through a multi-year high-performance program culminating in international competition. 

The appointment will extend through the 2029 international season. While the specific competition calendar has not yet been formally confirmed, the program is proactively planning for potential North American competition opportunities in 2027 and 2028, culminating in a prospective IFAF Women’s World Championship in 2029. Successful candidates should be prepared to lead and contribute to a multi-year high-performance program aligned with long-term athlete development and international readiness. 

The Head Coach position will be appointed by the Football Canada Selection Committee, comprised of five members, who have authority to approve the appointment. Coordinator positions will be appointed in consultation with the Head Coach and High Performance Director. 

Available Positions
The following positions are available within the Senior Women’s National Tackle program: 

  • Head Coach
  • Offensive Coordinator
  • Defensive Coordinator
  • Special Teams Coordinator

Key Roles and Responsibilities

The following responsibilities apply to the Head Coach role. Coordinator responsibilities will align with the overall program vision and will be defined in consultation with the appointed Head Coach. 

Program Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation 

  • Develop and implement a strategic multi-year vision for the Canadian Senior Women’s Tackle Football program. 
  • Lead planning and delivery of identification, development, and selection camps, preparation games, and competition. 
  • Monitor athlete development and provide structured feedback aligned with Football Canada’s high performance standards. 
  • Collaborate with the High Performance Director on program delivery, reporting, and alignment with national objectives. 

Athlete Development, Identification, and Recruitment 

  • Lead the development and communication of a transparent athlete identification and selection process. 
  • Actively participate in the identification and recruitment of talented athletes from across Canada. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with provincial sport organizations, leagues, and programs to support athlete identification. 
  • Implement retention strategies to foster a stable and committed national team roster. 

Driving a Culture of Excellence 

  • Act as a role model for athletes and all team personnel. 
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and competitive high-performance team culture that prioritizes teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. 
  • Maintain high standards of communication, professionalism, and accountability throughout the program. 
  • Support the implementation of tactical strategies and training environments that prepare athletes for international competition. 

Staff Collaboration and Capability Building 

  • Participate as a member of the selection committee for program staff including coordinators, position coaches, athletic therapists, and equipment management. 
  • Collaborate with coaching staff and support personnel to deliver a cohesive high-performance program. 
  • Support mentorship, knowledge sharing, and the development of coaches within the program. 

Communications and Reporting

  • Maintain clear and professional communication with athletes, families, coaching staff, and the High Performance Director. 
  • Provide regular feedback and program observations to support evaluation and continuous improvement. 
  • Represent Football Canada professionally while building positive relationships with domestic and international stakeholders. 

Upholding Safe Sport Values 

  • Promote a safe and positive sport environment by following Safe Sport principles and requirements at all times. 
  • Ensure all program activities are conducted in alignment with Football Canada’s Safe Sport policies and the UCCMS. 

Eligibility Requirements

The successful candidate must: 

  • Be 25 years of age or older on December 31st of the year of the event. 
  • Sign Football Canada’s Code of Conduct. 
  • Provide a valid Police Information Check (less than 2 years old). 
  • Be a registered member in good standing with Football Canada, their Provincial Sport Organization, and the Coaching Association of Canada. 
  • For international events: hold a valid Canadian passport that does not expire within six months of the conclusion of the international event. 

Minimum Application Requirements 

  • A minimum of 3 years of coaching experience at an elite level (Senior Women’s League, CFL, U SPORTS, CJFL, CEGEP, World Championship, National Championship, or Provincial Championship). 
  • Completion of the Making Head Way in Sport module. 
  • Minimum of in-training for Football Canada’s Competition Development context, or ability to provide a plan to complete within 8 months of accepting the position. 

Coaching Education and Requirements 

  • NCCP Competition Development Certified in Football or a demonstrated plan to achieve certification. 
  • Completion of Make Ethical Decisions Evaluation, Safe Sport or Respect in Sport, Rule of 2 Training, and Making Headway in Football. 
  • Completion of Safe Contact. 
  • Successful Criminal Record Check and agreement to sign the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS). 

Desired Qualifications

  • Proven coaching experience in 11-a-side tackle football (American Football rules). 
  • Experience coaching female tackle athletes. 
  • Strong knowledge of international tackle football rules, strategies, and techniques. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities. 
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive, safe, and athlete-centred team environment. 
  • Experience working within a national sport organization or high-performance program considered an asset.
