Our Junior National Teams represent the first step in a world class high performance pathway. This is a unique opportunity to help shape Canada’s next generation of international athletes while contributing directly to a historic moment in sport.
Under the direction of the High Performance Director (HPD) and the Junior National Team Head Coach, members of the Junior National Team Coaching Staff will support the preparation and development of their assigned Junior Flag National Team. The primary objective is to assist in evaluating, selecting, and preparing athletes for international competition, beginning with virtual evaluations and culminating in the Junior International Cup in Los Angeles.
Coaching staff will contribute to technical and tactical development, performance analysis, athlete identification, and program delivery within their assigned age and gender category. Staff members will work collaboratively with the Head Coach and HPD to support the continued growth and alignment of Football Canada’s Junior High Performance Pathway.
The purpose of this role is to support the preparation of the national team for success at the Junior International Cup while contributing to long term development standards within the Junior High Performance system. Coaching staff are responsible for assisting with athlete development, coaching excellence, and program execution as part of Football Canada’s high performance plan.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Program Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation
• Support the Head Coach and HPD in implementing Junior National Team programming aligned with Football Canada’s development pathway.
• Assist with training session planning and delivery leading into international competition.
• Contribute to monitoring athlete development and provide feedback to the Head Coach and HPD.
• Assist with logistics and program delivery at camps, competitions, and virtual sessions.
Athlete Development, Identification, and Recruitment
• Support remote athlete evaluations in April and assist in identifying athletes for the Top 50 list for the assigned age group.
• Participate in delivering virtual academy sessions for Top 50 athletes.
• Support coaching duties at in person events including Elite Flag Nationals and the final selection camp held during that event.
• Assist with athlete recruitment and identification aligned with Junior National Team standards.
• Contribute to athlete evaluation and selection processes alongside the Head Coach and HPD.
Performance and Gap Analysis
• Assist with video review and performance analysis of athletes and teams.
• Contribute to gap analysis to support athlete preparation and development.
• Help document performance insights and observations to support game planning and athlete feedback.
Driving Culture of Excellence and Leading Performance
• Contribute to a performance driven and athlete centred culture that reflects Football Canada values.
• Maintain high standards of communication, professionalism, and accountability.
• Support the implementation of tactical strategies and training environments that prepare athletes for international competition.
Building Capability and Optimizing Talent
• Collaborate with fellow coaching staff and support personnel to deliver a cohesive high performance program.
• Support mentorship, knowledge sharing, and development of coaches within the program.
Communications and Reporting
• Maintain clear and professional communication with athletes, families, coaching staff, and the HPD.
• Provide feedback and observations to the Head Coach to support program evaluation and improvement.
• Represent Football Canada in a professional manner while building positive relationships with stakeholders.
Upholding Safe Sport Values
• Promote a safe and positive sport environment by following Safe Sport principles and requirements.
Qualifications
Sport Knowledge and Skills
• Strong technical and tactical understanding of flag football.
• Experience coaching youth or high performance athletes.
• Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively with athletes aged 13 to 17.
• Commitment to inclusivity, athlete welfare, and long term development.
• Previous experience coaching at provincial, national, or elite youth levels is an asset.
• Experience coaching in national or international events is considered an advantage.
Coaching Education and Requirements
• NCCP Competition Development Certified in Football or a demonstrated plan to achieve certification.
• Completion of Make Ethical Decisions Evaluation, Safe Sport or Respect in Sport, Rule of 2 Training, and Making Headway in Football.
• Successful Criminal Record Check and agreement to sign the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS).
