Canada 2 Secures Fifth Place at 2024 IFAF U20 World Championships with Dominant Win Over Australia

Edmonton, Alberta – June 30, 2024 – Canada 2 capped off their campaign at the 2024 IFAF U20 World Championships with an impressive 45-7 victory over Australia, securing fifth place overall in the tournament. 

Australia took an early lead, matching the hosts at 7-7, but Canada 2 quickly found their rhythm. By halftime, Canada 2 had pulled ahead with a 17-7 lead, and a commanding 21-point third quarter ensured the game was out of reach for the Outback squad. 

Jay Summers initiated the scoring for Canada 2 with a 10-yard reception from quarterback Isaac Woodhouse, followed by Harrison Pratt’s successful extra point. The equalizer came through Riley Michaud’s three-yard rush, and Samuel Tremblay extended the lead with a 30-yard field goal. Elijah Barnes added a 15-yard scoring carry to close the first half with a ten-point advantage. 

The second half saw a series of dynamic plays from Canada 2. Cesare Rednour-Bruckman and Jalen McDonald each caught touchdown passes from Josh Page. Dominic Mais contributed a defensive highlight with a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown, and Jayden Gurzi-MacDonald sealed the victory with a two-yard rush into the end zone. 

The victory marks a strong finish for Canada 2, who bounced back after an initial defeat in their opening game against Austria followed by a resounding 63-7 win over Brazil. 

The IFAF U20 World JChampionships continue to be a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents and represent their countries with pride. This year’s event in Edmonton has once again brought together some of the best young football talent from around the world, promising a bright future for the sport.
