FOOTBALL CANADA ANNOUNCES 2024 TACKLE EVENTS

Canada to host four National Tackle Championships and the IFAF U20 Men’s World Championship

OTTAWA, ON – This summer promises to be exciting for tackle football enthusiasts and it will all start with a bang as Football Canada, in partnership with Football Alberta, hosts the 2024 IFAF U20 Men’s World Championship in Edmonton, Alberta as previously announced . This international event will kick off Football Canada’s National Championships season with events throughout the month of July.

“We are excited for another great summer of National level competition. These events will create great opportunities to showcase football across our great country and lasting memories for everyone involved,’’ says Joey Swarbrick, Interim Director, Sport at Football Canada.

The Under 16 (U16) Western Challenge will once again kick off the national event season in Regina, Saskatchewan, with teams from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia gathering from July 1st – 6th, 2024. Game days on Wednesday, July 3 and Saturday, July 6, with host province Saskatchewan looking to defend their title.

Football Saskatchewan will then host its second of back-to-back events, with the 2024 edition of the Football Canada Cup (FCC) also being held in Regina, from July 5th – 13th. The FCC brings eight Under 18 (U18) teams from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia together to compete for the title of National Champions. Three-time champions Team Saskatchewan will be looking to continue their reign. Games will be played on Sunday, July 7, Wednesday, July 10 and Saturday, July 13.

In the east, competitors from host province Nova Scotia, along with teams from New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario will meet at the Under 16 (U16) Eastern Challenge, scheduled for July 16th – 20th, 2024 at Oland Stadium in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, with game days on Thursday, July 18 and Sunday, July 21. After defeating Team Ontario in the last two finals, Team Quebec will be on the quest for a three-peat.

Football Canada’s event season will end where it began: with Football Alberta hosting the U18 Women’s National Championship in Calgary from July 18th – 28th, 2024 with teams from Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Indigenous Football Canada. The host team defeated Quebec and Saskatchewan in the first two finals and will also go for a third straight title before a local crowd. Teams will be in action on three game days, Saturday, July 20th, Tuesday, July 23rd, and Friday, July 26th.
