Football Canada Congratulates Stanford’s Elic Ayomanor and Laurier’s Taylor Elgersma on their Reese’s Senior Bowl Invitations
Ottawa, ON — Football Canada is proud to celebrate Taylor Elgersma’s historic achievement as the first U SPORTS quarterback to be invited to the Senior Bowl, a key scouting event for NFL and CFL Draft prospects. Joining him is fellow Canadian Elic Ayomanor, a standout wide receiver from Stanford University, a testament to the growing recognition of Canadian football talent among the world’s best.
Elgersma, a native of London, Ontario, has had an incredible journey. The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks quarterback recently completed an outstanding season, earning the Hec Crighton Trophy as U SPORTS’ most outstanding player. His 2024 season included over 4,000 passing yards, 40 touchdowns, and a 73% completion rate, leading Laurier to an undefeated regular season, a Yates Cup championship, and a Vanier Cup appearance. Along the way, he set a Uteck Bowl record with 452 passing yards and five touchdowns, showcasing his ability to deliver in high-stakes games.
Before excelling at the university level, Elgersma developed his skills with the Western Junior Mustangs and represented Team Ontario in 2019, both key milestones within Football Canada’s development programs. His journey began at Oakridge Secondary School, which also produced CFL talent in Paul Kozachuk, creating a legacy of athletic excellence. Elgersma’s transition from elite minor hockey with the London Junior Knights to football in Grade 10 demonstrates his remarkable adaptability and drive to excel.
Joining Elgersma at the Senior Bowl is Medicine Hat native, Elic Ayomanor, a wide receiver from Stanford University who is projected as a second-round pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. Ayomanor gained national attention in 2023 for his dominant performance against Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, where he recorded 13 receptions, 294 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. At 6’2” and 210 pounds, Ayomanor is known for his ability to win contested catches and create separation, making him a highly sought-after prospect for NFL teams in need of a dynamic playmaker. He also won the 2023 Jon Cornish Trophy and participated on Team Alberta.
The Reese’s Senior Bowl, scheduled for February 1, 2025, in Mobile, Alabama, is a premier event in the lead-up to the NFL and CFL Drafts. Elgersma and Ayomanor will join over 120 top college athletes, showcasing their skills under the guidance of professional coaches and coordinators. This opportunity underscores the exceptional talent emerging from Canada and their readiness to compete on the international stage.
Football Canada congratulates Taylor Elgersma and Elic Ayomanor for their accomplishments and wishes them success as they represent Canadian football at this prestigious event. Their journeys serve as an inspiration to young athletes across the country and demonstrate the potential of U SPORTS and Canadian-born football talent to thrive internationally.
