Ontario crowned 2024 Football Canada Cup champions after defeating Québec 45-7
July 14th – REGINA, SK – Team Ontario capped off their dominant run in the 2024 Football Canada Cup with a convincing 45-7 victory over Québec in the Gold Medal game on Saturday, July 13, at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Ontario’s offense was firing on all cylinders, amassing 319 total yards compared to Québec’s 220. The game started with Ontario taking control early and never looking back:
Ontario opened the scoring with an 18-yard field goal by Zachary Aubin at 11:06 in the first quarter. They extended their lead when Kymarri Smith scored on a 53-yard touchdown run at 5:16, making it 10-0.
The second quarter saw Ontario continue their dominance. Gabriel Hamilton caught a 7-yard touchdown pass at 9:00, followed by a single point. Dylan Tharby then returned an interception 52 yards for another touchdown, pushing the score to 25-0 at halftime.
Ontario added to their lead in the third quarter with another field goal and a single point. Paolo Grossi extended the lead further with a 46-yard interception return for a touchdown, making it 38-0.
In the final quarter, Ontario scored once more on a 35-yard touchdown pass to Benjamin Kingston. Québec managed to get on the board late in the game when Tyler Mercier caught a 5-yard touchdown pass, bringing the final score to 45-7.
Ontario’s quarterback Riley Chalmers completed 10 of 15 passes for 172 yards and 3 touchdowns. Kymarri Smith led the ground attack with 69 yards and a touchdown on just 2 carries.
Québec’s offense struggled against Ontario’s stout defense. Quarterback Louis Fortier completed 15 of 22 passes for 195 yards, 1 touchdown, and 3 interceptions.
Defensively, Ontario was led by Darcy Winsor, who recorded 7 tackles and a pass knockdown. For Québec, Adam Bel Mouddine had a strong game with 5 tackles, including one for loss, and a fumble recovery.
This victory secures Ontario (3-0) the gold medal in the tournament, while Québec (2-1) takes home the silver medal.
