Following a day one loss to defending champion Ontario, Quebec-White defeated Manitoba 31-0 on Thursday July 16 at the 2015 Football Canada Cup from Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu’s Alphonse-Desjardins Stadium.
Quebec came out of the gates early, determined to improve on Thursday’s result as their defense opened the scoring on a 37-yard Louis-Philippe Leclerc fumble recovery return for a touchdown.
Gatineau quarterback Philip Charpentier added a pair of touchdown passes as he found Tristan Quirion and Antoine Danserau-Leclerc on 5 and 30-yard touchdown strikes respectively to widen the home province’s advantage 24-0 heading into halftime.
Quebec added a final touchdown to cap off the day as Antoine Dansereau-Leclerc reached the end zone for the second time on the afternoon on a 28-yard strike from quarterback Guillaume Renaud-Dumoulin.
On day three, Quebec-White will face Nova Scotia at 1 p.m. ET while Manitoba will open up action on Sunday July 19 against New Brunswick.
Quotes:
“I liked the way a lot of our individuals responded. A great example is Keenan Onyebuchi gave up a touchdown in the first quarter, he came back with a very athletic interception later. He ended up having himself a very great game. That’s the kind of fight we expect and want from our starters and our returning players and all our athletes. Offensively we had a lot of trouble moving the ball. We got some good push; Trevor Wright had a very explosive game. I think that a lot of our overall stats aren’t going to reflect the effort we put on the field today.”
On facing NB on Sunday:
“That’s a very tough team. They obviously fight very hard for every inch they get. They’ve got a quarterback that I was impressed with already so I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do when we meet.”
Dan Washnuk, Manitoba Head Coach
“I’m pretty happy with the result today. We had a game plan that we set and the guys were able to execute the game plan and we’re pretty happy about the result.”
“It’s fun to come out of a win; once you come out of a win guys work a little harder and guys are happier, their spirits are up. We’re going to use the momentum of this win to take us to the next level.”
-Fabrice Raymond, Quebec-White Head Coach
