The 116th Canadian Bowl, presented by the Government of Ontario, is set for 7:00 PM EST tonight at Acumen Stadium in Windsor, featuring a highly anticipated matchup between the Okanagan Sun and St. Clair Saints. This clash brings together two unbeaten powerhouses in a game that promises to showcase the best Canada has to offer in Junior football.
Journey to the 116th Canadian Bowl
The Okanagan Sun earned their spot in the championship with a 28-14 victory over the Regina Thunder, demonstrating a steadfast defence and effective strategic play. Key players like running back Elelyon Noa, who rushed for 1,612 yards and 22 touchdowns during the regular season, and linebacker Jacob Bond, the team’s leading tackler, were vital to the Sun’s success. The Sun’s defensive unit, led by All-Canadian defensive backs Ahmed Borhot and Kenley Williams, has been formidable, allowing an average of just 13.7 points per game.
The St. Clair Saints secured their place with an emphatic 75-39 win over the London Beefeaters in the Ontario Football Conference final. This victory capped an undefeated season where the Saints averaged an impressive 61.5 points per game while holding opponents to just 4.2. Quarterback Maurice Sodja led the charge with nearly 1,500 passing yards and 20 touchdowns, supported by standout receivers Darius France and Cameron St. Kitts-Park. Despite injuries, the Saints’ depth has proven unmatched, highlighted by performances from All-Canadian defensive stalwart Jaylin Burnett.
A Clash for the Championship
This year’s Canadian Bowl is a rematch of the 2022 Intergold Cup, where the Sun emerged victorious before claiming their third national title. Both teams bring high-powered offences and formidable defences to the table, setting the stage for the first night game in recent Canadian Bowl history.
