Football Canada, AirKJax Communications partner to hold 2021 Madden Canada Cup

Ottawa, ON – Football Canada – in partnership with AirKJax Communications – is pleased to announce that the Madden Canada Cup will return in 2021, after a successful debut in 2020.

This past July, football fans nationwide got their football fix thanks to the 2020 Madden Canada Cup, a virtual madden tournament run by Football Canada and powered by AirKJax. The purpose of the e-sports event – which aired from July 10-11 – was to bring the football community together during the COVID-19 pandemic, and was a success. In total, 96 participants from across the nation took part.

The event will be ramped up in year two, with 10 qualifying tournaments taking place. They will be open to XBOX1 and PS4 players aged 13 and over. Tentatively, a North American Open Qualifier will take place in early November, followed by a Canadian open in early January. Eight regional qualifying tournaments will take place between in early February and March, with the national championship – reserved for the top 16 ranked players – taking place at the end of April 2021.

“During such an uncertain time, it’s great to be able to provide an alternate avenue of ‘football’ and competition for Canadians,” said Football Canada communications coordinator Vanisha Mistry.

“We want to be able to work off the success of the 2020 event, build something bigger so we can provide more opportunity for people to get involved, have some fun, and interact with the sport in some capacity.”

The introduction of the Madden Canada Cup has established an opportunity to create a national brand around football-esports while also creating an inclusive and engaging digital football environment across the country. This has allowed for the creation of an esports National Team – Canadian Maddens Finest. The team consists of seven of the top ranked Madden players from the 2020 championship and will represent Canada during the Madden Championship Series.
