Former Football Canada Board Member Ted Goveia named Hamilton Tiger-Cats new General Manager
Football Canada congratulates Ted Goveia on his appointment as the new General Manager of the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Ted’s decades-long dedication to football at every level, from grassroots to professional, has made him an indispensable figure in the football community. His new role is a testament to his relentless passion and exceptional leadership within the sport.
Ted’s journey is one of profound impact and tireless commitment. Before making his mark in the CFL, he spent 15 years cultivating talent and fostering excellence at the Canadian university level. Whether leading Mount Allison to back-to-back AUS Finals and a Jewett Cup win in 1997 or spearheading McMaster University’s recruiting efforts during an unprecedented 33-game regular season winning streak, Ted has consistently elevated the game. His leadership extended to UBC, where he served as Offensive Coordinator and later Head Coach and General Manager, all while contributing to the growth of football as a Board Member for Football BC.
Transitioning to the professional ranks, Ted brought his visionary approach to the Toronto Argonauts and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, contributing to multiple Grey Cup victories along the way. With a focus on scouting, player development, and contract negotiations, he has built championship-calibre rosters while nurturing the next generation of Canadian talent.
“As a past member of Football Canada’s Board of Directors, Ted was committed to building relationships and driving our sport forward. His work has strengthened connections throughout our sport and his commitment to the support for community and grassroots programming will be something we will continue to benefit from. I look forward to seeing Ted succeed in his new role“, said Kevin McDonald, Football Canada Executive Director.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats gain not only a seasoned executive but a passionate advocate for the power of football to transform lives. Ted’s roots in Burlington, Ontario, make this appointment all the more meaningful, as he now leads a team that represents a community he knows so well.
Congratulations, Ted, on this well-deserved opportunity. We know your leadership will inspire excellence and foster growth both on and off the field. The entire football community looks forward to seeing your continued success in this next chapter of your storied career.
Ted served on the Football Canada Board of Directors from 2020 to 2024.
