Ontario punches their ticket to Gold Medal game after defeating Saskatchewan 32-7 on Day 2 of the 2024 Football Canada Cup

July 11th – REGINA, SK – Team Ontario continued their dominant run in the 2024 Football Canada Cup with a convincing 32-7 victory over Saskatchewan on Wednesday, July 10, at Leibel Field in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Ontario’s offense was firing on all cylinders, amassing 450 total yards compared to Saskatchewan’s 234. The game started with Ontario taking control early and never looking back:

Ontario struck quickly in the first quarter, scoring two touchdowns. Massimo Ferrone-Byrd punched in a 4-yard run at 10:33, followed by a 17-yard touchdown pass from Riley Chalmers to Drake Logan as time expired in the quarter.

The second quarter saw Ontario add a safety and a field goal, while Saskatchewan managed to get on the board with a spectacular 108-yard touchdown pass from Adrian Reaume to Ben Blackburn. The half ended with Ontario leading 19-7.

Ontario continued to extend their lead in the third quarter with two more scores. Zachary Aubin kicked a 17-yard field goal, and Riley Chalmers connected with Kymarri Smith for a 44-yard touchdown pass, pushing the score to 29-7.

The final quarter saw Ontario add another field goal while their defense shut out Saskatchewan, resulting in the final score of 32-7.

Quarterback Riley Chalmers led Ontario’s passing attack, completing 19 of 28 attempts for 323 yards and 2 touchdowns. His primary target was Kymarri Smith, who caught 5 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Massimo Ferrone-Byrd led the rushing effort with 50 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

Saskatchewan’s offense struggled against Ontario’s stout defense. Quarterback Adrian Reaume completed 5 of 13 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown, with most of that coming on the 108-yard scoring play to Ben Blackburn.

Defensively, Ontario was led by Paolo Grossi with 5 tackles, while Garrett Scott added 4 tackles including 2 sacks. For Saskatchewan, Liam Platt had an outstanding game with 8.5 tackles and 2 interceptions.

This victory keeps Ontario (2-0) undefeated and in strong contention for the championship, while Saskatchewan (1-1) will look to bounce back in their final game.

The 2024 Football Canada Cup concludes with the final round of games on Saturday, July 13.
