SACKVILLE SET FOR EASTERN UNDER-16S
Event heads to New Brunswick for the first time
SACKVILLE, N.B. – The Football Canada Eastern U-16 Challenge is set to get underway on Thursday, as four teams from Central and Eastern Canada will battle for regional supremacy at Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B. This is the first time New Brunswick has hosted the event, and its first time back in the Maritimes since the inaugural event in 2017, which was held at Wolfville, N.S.
Quebec will be looking for their third straight championship, as they are a perfect 5-0 at the event. After not participating in 2017, they won three games to take gold in 2018 (which was a five-team event) and pulled off the repeat in 2019.
Quebec will take on the hosts from New Brunswick set for a 7 p.m. start (all times Atlantic). Their only previous meeting in the event came in the first round of 2018, which Quebec won 20-7.
Ontario will face Nova Scotia at 4 p.m. Ontario and Nova Scotia have met twice previously: a 35-21 win for Nova Scotia in the 2017 championship game, and a 21-0 win for Ontario in a 2018 bronze-medal mini-game. Ontario has two silver medals and a bronze to show for their previous three appearances, while Nova Scotia has picked up one gold and one bronze medal.
The medal games are set for Sunday, July 24, with the bronze medal game set for 4 p.m. and the championship at 7.
All games will be streamed on the Football Canada YouTube channels. Follow Football Canada’s social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for updates during the competition.
