Semi-Finals set for Girls and Boys U16 Flag Football National Championships
August 2, Antigonish, NS – The second day of action at the 2023 U16 Flag Football National Championships for boys and girls concluded Tuesday in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and the stage is now set for a thrilling conclusion Wednesday, starting with the semi-finals.
In the girls tournament, Team Québec Blue and Team Saskatchewan White continued their dominant performances, each securing a spot in the semi-final matchups by defeating the other’s provincial counterparts. Team Saskatchewan White will face Team Ontario East, who earned their spot in the semi with a convincing win over Team Alberta. On the other side of the bracket, Team Québec Blue will battle against Team Manitoba West, who came out in third place from the group phase only to comfortably dispatch Team Ontario West in their quarterfinal match.
The girls’ semi-finals start at 11:40 am and the winners will move on to the championship final set to be played at 3:30 pm. The rest of the placement games will also be played on Wednesday.
On the boys’ side, Team Saskatchewan Green, after completing a sweep on the first day of group phase play, secured their spot in the semis thanks to a win over Team Québec. They will face Team BC Orange who pulled off a one-point win over Team Ontario Red in the quarterfinal game. The other side of the bracket will see host Team Nova Scotia Blue, a strong contender from day one, face Team Ontario White who eliminated Team BC Black in an exciting quarter-final.
Just as with the girls’ tournament, the boys’ semi-finals get underway at 11:40 am with the winners meeting in the gold medal game at 4:30 pm. Placement games for all remaining teams will also be played Wednesday.
