Football Canada identifies 92 players for 2013 Women’s National Team

Football Canada is proud to announce the identification of 92 players who move on for the chance to participate on Canada’s Women’s National Team which will compete at the 2013 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Women’s World Championship.

Players identified are invited to attend one of two selection camps in either Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan or Montréal, Québec in early 2013. If those initially identified choose not to commit, additional players may be invited in their place.

The Women’s National Team is the defending silver medalist from the inaugural 2010 IFAF Women’s World Championship.

“Women’s football is growing rapidly across Canada — the talent level and football IQ of the players has improved significantly,” said Women’s National Team, defensive coordinator, Jeff Yausie who is also the head coach of the Saskatoon Valkyries.

“The greatly improved talent pool made the process of narrowing the field down to 92 players a difficult one. We thank the 175 who competed at the Challenge Cup and expect those identified today to continue to train hard in the off-season in preparation for the next phase in the selection process,” said Women’s National Team, head coach, François Bougie.
