FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA – Team Canada football head coach Larry Haylor has selected eight Canadian-based coaches to support him on the sidelines at the 2011 IFAF (International Federation of American Football) Senior Championship to be held in Austria in July 2011 (www.footballcanada.2011com).

This is Canada’s first entry into the world championships at the senior men’s level.

Western Mustangs football head coach and offensive coordinator Greg Marshall, a former Canadian Football League coach of the year, will serve as the offensive coordinator, while Glen Constantin, head coach of the Laval Rouge et Or, will serve as the defensive coordinator. Haylor was selected as the head coach in November of 2008.

“In assembling the coaching staff for Canada’s first involvement in the world championships, bringing the best people to the staff was the single most important consideration,” says Haylor. “Canada faces considerable first-time challenges in selecting the players, preparing the team and competing with the best in the world. These coaches bring unparalleled expertise, experience and motivation in making that possible.”

Joining this trio are Brian Towriss (special teams, running backs), the head coach of the Saskatchewan Huskies, Steve Sumarah (quarterbacks, receivers) of the Saint Mary’s Huskies, Jeff Cummins (defensive line), the head coach of the Acadia Axemen, Blake Nill (linebackers), the head coach of the Calgary Dinos, Pat Tracey (defensive backs, special teams) of the Queen’s Gaels, and Bill MacDermott (offensive line) coach of the Edmonton Huskies in the Canadian Junior Football League.

“Though not planned, most of the country is being represented while also providing a unique perspective in coaching styles,” says Rick Sowieta, director of high performance for Football Canada. “When you look at this accomplished coaches’ list and read their bios, you realize that these minds are the very best in Canadian football coaching.”

Haylor says he is really pleased with the high quality of talent on the coaching group.

“Our coaching staff represents the best of high achievement across all levels of competition and all geographic regions of Canada,” Haylor says. “This coaching staff is a unique first for football in Canada and I am honoured and proud to have them together on our coaching staff. We look forward with great excitement the task before us.”
