Saskatchewan and Manitoba win gold in 2018 Flag Nationals. Quebec sweeps Under-16 Eastern Flag Championships

On Sunday at Saint Mary’s Huskies Stadium in Halifax, champions were crowned at both the 2018 Flag Nationals and the Under-16 Eastern Flag Regional Championships.

In the 2018 Flag National Male Division, Manitoba won gold after edging British Columbia 20-19. British Columbia claimed silver. Quebec defeated Ontario 20-14 to take the bronze medal.

Earlier in the day, Nova Scotia earned a 33-0 shutout victory over Saskatchewan, Manitoba edged Quebec 26-25 and British Columbia got past Ontario 26-21.

Offensive MVP of the Male Division was Ontario’s Tanner Elson while Defensive MVP was Manitoba’s Teagan Simon.

As for the Female Division, Saskatchewan won gold after defeating Quebec 13-6.  Quebec ended up with silver.  Manitoba earned bronze after cruising to a 20-7 win over Ontario.

Other scores from the day were Saskatchewan earning a 26-0 shutout win over Nova Scotia, Quebec downing Manitoba 24-7 and Saskatchewan getting past Ontario 24-21.

Saskatchewan’s Brooke Linner was named Offensive MVP of the Division while Manitoba’s Cirena Maurice took Defensive MVP honours.

Meanwhile in the 2018 Under-16 Eastern Flag Male Division, Quebec got past Nova Scotia (2) 26-21 to take home gold.  Nova Scotia (2) claimed silver while Ontario earned the bronze medal  after manhandling Nova Scotia (1) 42-0.

Earlier games saw Quebec defeat Ontario 32-24 and Nova Scotia (2) upending Nova Scotia (1) 34-14.

Offensive MVP of the Division was Quebec’s Jaden Frenette while Quebec’s Noah Smallwood earned Defensive MVP.

In the Female Division, Quebec (1) defeated Quebec (2) in an all-provincial final 18-13 to win gold.  Host Nova Scotia (1) earned the bronze after earning a 14-0 shutout victory over Quebec (3).

Other games in the day saw Quebec (3) getting past Nova Scotia (2) 13-6.  Quebec (1) defeating Nova Scotia (1) 19-6 and Quebec (2) downing Quebec (3) 12-6.

Quebec’s Lyanne St-Amour was named Offensive MVP of the division while Nova Scotia’s Mychael Paris was chosen as Defensive MVP.
