CFFL Regional events cancelled
With safety as the top priority, Football Canada has cancelled all Canadian Flag Football League (CFFL) regional tournaments due to COVID-19.
The three regionals were originally scheduled for May 8-9 (Edmonton), May 16-17 (Halifax) and in Montreal in June, with the winners advancing to nationals from August 14-15 in Ottawa. The 2020 CFFL Nationals – scheduled for August 2020 – will now be an open invitational with competitive and recreational divisions. Registration details will be announced in the coming weeks.
There will be three categories for each division: men’s, women’s and mixed. There will be no player evaluations and no pathway to nationals associated with the recreation division.
The winners of each competitive division will have the opportunity to represent Canada on the international stage. Players from the top two teams of their respective divisions will also automatically earn a spot to compete on Football Canada’s Top 24, along with at the 2021 International Bowl.
Last year, Manitoba’s Most Wanted took home the inaugural CFFL title for the men. On the women’s side, Team Canada (Saskatoon, SK) secured gold. These two teams also received automatic bids to 2020 nationals as the top-seeded teams from their respective divisions.
